Notes from Club Assembley 17th July 2023

Pres Hugo opened the meeting at 620 with the Rotary Affirmation.

Apologies: Churlya , Alf, Patrica, John Kane and Paul Sarks 

Guest: Welcomed Lynne   Welcome back Sana and Walter 

Pres Hugo has circulated a digital calendar and intends to support the running of our old usual events and some new events. He has organised speakers from District. We will also consider international projects. 

 

Admin Director pp Peter Moore circulated old Rotary covers with committee structures we have used in the past. Discussed Club runner , Xero for accounting, Working with Children,  Speakers at meetings.    

Dennise Herrick is organising badges and club shirts Discussion

Aug 6 .  Sandakan BBQ and in negotiation with Burwood Council. Commemorate 30th anniversary of the event  Burwood Council paid us $10.00 last year for 250 people. Last year was for sandwich and drink, so this year council reduced payment to $7 for 150 people. Maybe we can use it as leverage for Burwood Festival,  Considered maybe it is not worthwhile to run with this event Burwood Council are saying take it or leave it as they have other who will do it. We can get community exposure 

Pres Hugo will push for decreased fees for Burwood Fair. or  more money for the Sandakan BBQ. 

ADG Brearathy organised a Presidents' dinner last Friday for Western  District Presidents which Pres Hugo attended.  

RC Concord want to re instate the Debate between our two clubs.  

RC Strathfield want  to sell us a BBQ for $5000.00 

RC Granville want to run a cultural night. 

New DG will come to speak to us but no date has been set as yet.

Rob Whitney outlined Youth events  

Anna Marie Sanni will organise Fellowship events Dinner meeting  Trivia nights 

Membership- we need to consider our membership fees. Discussion as to why they are relatively high.

International: Dennise is going to Cambodia and encouraged other to come with her to see what Rotary does. Maybe Dennise will speak to us on 9th October 

Youth exchange: There is a 14 year old from Sweden coming to Ryde rotary 

PP Walter.  Has a Philippine girl coming to Sydney.  Rotarian from Marulan is going to Philippines for education purposes for two months. She is doing school lessons in the day and and community lessons at night . Walter may get her to speak here.

Tres Irene: Treasurer Balances circulated

Community.  Pp Keith Weeding  Sandarkan,  Burwood fair  Will look at Bunnings BBQ

Card reader: Irene has a square and we need to get it working. Hugo volunteered 

Call for fellows to make donations for the Sandakan BBQ to defray costs. Keith buying rolls

Next meeting Ron Brown Rotary 

Other speakers 14th Aug. Two women, one has a Charity operating in Ethiopia organised by pp Walter 

Meeting closed at 800 

Raffle won by Dennise. She prefers  chocolates not wine

Fellows here is the latest from Juvie in Gingoog, they returned from the Helping Hand mission, and are now preparing for the next. We have some donations coming in, thank you, and will send every dollar over for these missions.

Dear Friends and supporters,

I received another email from Juvie and MinPRA in Gingoog. Somehow, miraculously they avoided much damage to themselves. On the compound it appears two fruit trees came down and the other crop was damaged. On the mountain property the damage was even less. They hate asking for help but they would like to help the island of Dinagat where Vera took a team on a SewAID Mission a couple of years ago.

Rotary Youth Exchange - making a difference - Reflections from a Reunion 30 years later.
 
The Year is 1991, two busses full of Rotary Exchange Students enter a parking lot in Sydney after 3 weeks around Australia on the “Capricorn Ramble Tour”. Saying goodbye was heart-breaking, knowing that we would soon be back home and maybe never see each other again.
 
Jumping to September 2021, downtown Frankfurt on a Friday afternoon in brilliant weather. Stepping out of the car to greet 3 people I have not seen for 30 year in front of their hotel.

Burwood Rotary 50th Anniversary Charitable Trust
The Rotary Club of Burwood has created the 50th Anniversary Charitable Trust with the overall charitable purpose of "relieving poverty and the advancement of education or any other matter beneficial to the community". Funds are awarded to persons who satisfy the Trustees that they are financially disadvantaged and are undertaking some form of further study/sporting endeavour beneficial to themselves and to the community in general.
