MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Morning everyone,

I hope every had a wonderful long weekend and enjoyed the incredibly hot weather!

October is going to be an incredibly full on month for Burwood Rotary and I hope that you're all energised to sink your teeth in.

Apart from our regular meetings, we will be joined by the DG Tonia Barnes on 16 October, we have the Eurella Trivia Night on 21 October and then that will be followed by the Concord v Burwood Rotary Trivia Night on 23 October

If you're able to make all these events, please let me know as soon as you can so I can sort out tickets.

Last meeting we heard from Keith Roffey OAM who brought the club up to date about the work that Rotary has done, and still has to do, in it's fight against the scourge of polio.

My biggest takeaway was the idea that when so may good people come together with a common goal, so many good things can happen.

I think the Club has been incredibly lucky to have had a string of such inspiring speakers to come and share their story and their message and hopefully the next few speakers that we have joining us will give us that extra drive to continue the good work that we do as a Club.

Next week we have representatives from the NSW SES Burwood. I met Connor West, a volunteer with Burwood SES, at our BBQ for the Sandakan Memorial Day earlier in the year and he offered to come and speak to the club.

It goes without saying that the SES is a much needed and much valued pillar of our community, especially when times are tough.

NSW SES are the lead agency for flood, storm and tsunami critical response in NSW. They manage responses to these emergencies while helping communities prepare with essential planning and life-saving education.

NSW SES volunteers come from all walks of life, bringing with them many different skills, interests and backgrounds. They are united by the purpose of supporting their communities in times of need.

Upcoming:

9 October 2023 -  Club Meeting w/ NSW SES Burwood

16 October 2023 - Joint DG Visit with Drummoyne Rotary Club

21 October 2023 - Eurella Trivia Night

6 November 2023 - Club Meeting w/ Ken Enderby, President, Climate Action Burwood/Canada Bay

See you on Monday night,

Hugo Robinson

Report from Gingoog by PP Walter Bock

Dear Friends and supporters,

I received another email from Juvie and MinPRA in Gingoog. Somehow, miraculously they avoided much damage to themselves. On the compound it appears two fruit trees came down and the other crop was damaged. On the mountain property the damage was even less. They hate asking for help but they would like to help the island of Dinagat where Vera took a team on a SewAID Mission a couple of years ago.

Rotary Youth Exchange - making a difference - Reflections from a Reunion 30 years later.

The Year is 1991, two busses full of Rotary Exchange Students enter a parking lot in Sydney after 3 weeks around Australia on the “Capricorn Ramble Tour”. Saying goodbye was heart-breaking, knowing that we would soon be back home and maybe never see each other again.

Jumping to September 2021, downtown Frankfurt on a Friday afternoon in brilliant weather. Stepping out of the car to greet 3 people I have not seen for 30 year in front of their hotel.
