MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Hi all,
Hope you've had a wonderful weekend!
First, I would like to thank everyone who came to our last meeting to hear from Ken Enderby from the Climate Action Burwood/Canada Bay group. Ken gave us a very informative presentation on the work that his group is doing to advocate for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in our community. He also provided us with some tips on what we can do as individuals to make a difference.
Second, I would like to remind everyone to please pay their club dues as soon as possible. If you have not yet received an invoice, please let me know and I will send you one.
Finally, I would like to invite you to our Christmas Party on December 4, 2023 at the Corro Club. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the year with your fellow Rotarians and their families. Please RSVP to me by November 25th so that we can get a headcount.

I will see you all at our next meeting tomorrow night. Unfortunately our guest speaker Sally Sitou MP, Member for Reid, has pulled out on Friday so I will try and get a speaker for tomorrow for us.

Ken Enderby presents to the Club.
PRISCA 2023
The spirit of Burwood Rotary's Primary Schools' Citizenship Awards (PRISCA) remains undimmed. This year, the awards will continue to recognize the outstanding contributions of Year 5 and 6 students from the Inner West, West, and South Western Sydney areas, even in the absence of a physical ceremony night.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of Liam James, the PRISCA coordinator, and Keith Weeding, who has been diligently contacting schools, the awards will be presented to deserving students directly through their respective schools. This ensures that the tradition of honoring exceptional acts of citizenship is upheld, even amidst the evolving circumstances.
The selection process for the PRISCA awards remains rigorous, with schools carefully considering the leadership skills and community commitment demonstrated by their nominees. These students have exemplified the values of empathy, compassion, and a strong sense of civic responsibility, making them true role models for their peers.
While the absence of a physical ceremony may dampen the celebratory atmosphere, the essence of the PRISCA awards remains unchanged. The recognition bestowed upon these remarkable students serves as a testament to the enduring power of community spirit and the unwavering commitment to fostering a brighter future for all.

Conference will be held at the Novotel Wollongong Northbeach in Wollongong on 8-10 March 2024.
There will be speakers covering topical subjects and important Rotary projects.

Fellows here is the latest from Juvie in Gingoog, they returned from the Helping Hand mission, and are now preparing for the next. We have some donations coming in, thank you, and will send every dollar over for these missions. Those pictures give an idea of the destruction.
I received another email from Juvie and MinPRA in Gingoog. Somehow, miraculously they avoided much damage to themselves. On the compound it appears two fruit trees came down and the other crop was damaged. On the mountain property the damage was even less. They hate asking for help but they would like to help the island of Dinagat where Vera took a team on a SewAID Mission a couple of years ago.
Rotary Youth Exchange - making a difference - Reflections from a Reunion 30 years later.
The Year is 1991, two busses full of Rotary Exchange Students enter a parking lot in Sydney after 3 weeks around Australia on the “Capricorn Ramble Tour”. Saying goodbye was heart-breaking, knowing that we would soon be back home and maybe never see each other again.
Jumping to September 2021, downtown Frankfurt on a Friday afternoon in brilliant weather. Stepping out of the car to greet 3 people I have not seen for 30 year in front of their hotel.
The Rotary Club of Burwood has created the 50th Anniversary Charitable Trust with the overall charitable purpose of "relieving poverty and the advancement of education or any other matter beneficial to the community". Funds are awarded to persons who satisfy the Trustees that they are financially disadvantaged and are undertaking some form of further study/sporting endeavour beneficial to themselves and to the community in general.
